On 26 January 2026, Prof. Maček invited Prof. Michiel Vermeulen from Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Since February 2023, Prof. Vermeulen has also held a part-time position as senior group leader at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. In his talk, titled 'Chromatin Biology', he provided insights into his area of scientific interest. His laboratory develops and applies state-of-the-art, quantitative, mass spectrometry-based interaction proteomics and next-generation DNA sequencing technology to decipher epigenetic regulation of gene expression in differentiated stem cells. They also use this technology to study the deregulation of gene expression in cancer. To address central research questions, they use embryonic and adult stem cell-based in vitro cell culture models, including gastruloids, cancer organoids and primary cells.
