November 14, 2025

Prof. Jochen Prehn is Director of the Center for Systems Medicine and Head of the Physiology and Medical Physics Department.

On November 13, 2025, Prof. Markus Morrison invited Prof. Dr. Jochen Prehn from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, to give another EpiSignal Talk. Prof. Jochen Prehn is Director of the Center for Systems Medicine and Head of the Physiology and Medical Physics Department. With his talk “Wer, wo, was - Spatial single cell analysis of tumour biology in colorectal cancer” he gave us insights into the research area of apoptosis deficiency and cancer progression. In general, his research expertise is concentrated on patient-focused research in the areas of novel therapeutics and prognostic and predictive biomarkers in oncology, neuro-oncology and neuroscience. Prof Prehn's group is focusing on the elucidation and qualitative and quantitative description of cell survival and cell death signaling in cancer cells, as well as during ischaemic and degenerative tissue destruction. He is particularly interested in single-cell imaging approaches for detecting apoptotic events, and in the role of BH3 only proteins as mediators and novel targets in cell survival and cell death signaling.
