On 05.02.2026. Prof. Markus Morrison invited Dr. Annika Hantusch, a Life Science IT consultant at Wega Informatik AG, to give a talk with the title „Unlocking Lab Data: Industry Perspectives on FAIRification and Digital Labs”. Innovation and efficiency across life sciences depend on lab data that is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR). However, many R&D organisations and research labs still struggle to translate 'FAIR' into practical solutions. This talk translated the deeply intertwined aspects of FAIR into real-world examples. Drawing on her industry experience with digital lab ecosystems, including electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), instruments and integration, she shared lessons learned. She presented a purpose-driven approach to data FAIRification and ways to avoid scope creep. Attendees left with a clear understanding of the relevance and implications of FAIR, as well as actionable approaches to FAIR data management on a local and global scale.
